Scorpio-N Tire Options & Experience with Yokohama Geolandar A/T
With 35K kms done on the stock MRF tires of my Scorpio N, I was on the lookout for a worthy change. I have a first batch Z8L, AT, D, 4XPLOR model from Aug 2022.
I put out a Survey to understand what tires ScorpioN owners chose, how much they paid and their experience with the new tires. You can take this survey here (you can take the survey even if you not changed your tired and just want to see the results) : Survey Link
As of March 2025, this survey has got about 45+ responses and 20+ of those responses were from owners who have changed their tires. Below is the split of what ScorpioN owners chose for their N's.
From the responses, these 3 brands had an almost equal split
- Apollo Apterra AT2
- CEAT Crossdrive AT
- Yokohama Geolandar A/T
With the Survey data in my pocket, I finalized on Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015. I felt it was worth the risk based on online and offline reviews of these tires plus the warranty from Yokohama.

Dealer:
I found a local dealer 1 Km from my dwelling which made the process super smooth. This dealer is also a Yokohama Club Member (Sai Ram Wheels World, Hyderabad) and has multiple branches in Hyderabad (Chandanagar, Khajaguda and few others). The dealer promised me to get brand new stock in an hour and the entire installation was done in less than 2 hours. Note that only some dealers are Yokohama Club Member Dealerships. These dealers give the best price and deals, so its better to check on this before finalizing.

Size:
- Original Tire Size (Stock MRF) : 255/60 R18
- Yokohama Geolandar A/T Size : 265/60 R18
- Going from 255 to 265 meant the contact patch size increased by 10mm
- 5 year Warranty (Got a proper bill and Warranty SMS after installation)
- Cost : ~17k per tire (Incl Alignment and Balancing)
- The dealer did not have any use for the old tires and was not ready to pay anything
- FE (Fuel Efficiency): I did a 1600+ Km trip immediately after installing the new tires. The highest I have ever reached on my stock MRF tires was around 14 km/liter. I have a 4XPLOR Diesel Automatic with a Roof mounted carrier so my FE has never crossed 14 km/liter. With the Yokohama Geolandar A/T, the maximum FE I could squeeze was 13.2 km/liter on highways in this recent trip, so yes there is about a 0.8-1 km/liter drop with these tires. In city driving, I have always got about 10 km/liter with spirited driving with my stock MRF tires and I see that this trend continues with the Yokohama Geolandar A/T.
- NVH (Noise Levels): I have not noticed a major difference in the noise levels, though for some reason, it feels that the vehicle is working harder with the Yokohama Geolandar (though there is no major change in the FE). I suspect this is because of the wider contact patch with the road.
- Rubbing: Since the only difference in the size between the old MRF tires and the new Yokohama Geolandar was the extra 10 mm contact patch, I have not noticed any rubbing of the tires anywhere when turning or otherwise.
- Grip & Braking: The Yokohama Geolandar tires are just phenomenal when it comes to grip. You have to drive them to understand the difference. The grooves are deep and the contact with the surface is really strong.
- Pressure and Temperature: I noticed that these tires maintain a steady temperature and pressure irrespective of the ambient temperature. I drove for 12+ in a stretch and the temperature and pressure remained constant in all the four tires.
- TMPS: Since the TPMS attaches itself to the alloys, there was no recalibration or reinstallation needed during and after installing the new tires.
Customized Rubber Stickers
I self-installed these white rubber stickers. This was a 2 hour job and does require some patience, but the results are worth it. I got these for around 3K from Tyre Decor (WhatsApp: +91 99101 77944). They will send all the required hardware along with video instructions on how to install these.
